Fleet Electrification Success in Charlotte: Inovis + Atom Power EV Charging

Mecklenburg Paint Inovis Energy Atom Power Charging Station

Charlotte, NC – EV charging for commercial fleets in Charlotte is no longer a future goal—it’s happening now. Discover how Inovis Energy helped a local business electrify their fleet quickly and cost-effectively.

Project Overview

See how Inovis helped a local business make it happen—fast. Inovis Energy, a leading energy services company, and Atom Power, the pioneer in solid-state breaker EV charging solutions, have partnered with Mecklenburg Paint Company (MPC), a woman-owned commercial paint contractor, to help the company transition its fleet to electric vehicles (EVs) by 2025, starting with the installation of dual-port Atom EV chargers at its facility in Charlotte this year.

EV Charging Solution for Commercial Fleets in Charlotte

Inovis Energy is equipping MPC with the charging infrastructure necessary to reach its ambitious electrification goals. Inovis Energy selected Atom EV chargers because their innovative approach of using solid-state digital circuit breaker technology to charge vehicles from a centralized panel eliminates the need for expensive utility upgrades and ensures maximum energy efficiency, setting partners, like MPC, up for success as they scale the number of EVs in their fleet.

EV Charging Solution for Commercial Fleets in Charlotte

To meet MPC’s electrification goals, Inovis Energy installed scalable EV charging infrastructure that could grow with the fleet. They selected Atom Power’s solid-state breaker technology, which charges vehicles from a centralized panel. This innovation eliminates the need for costly utility transformer upgrades, streamlining implementation and boosting energy efficiency.

This forward-thinking infrastructure gives MPC the flexibility to scale its fleet without facing additional grid-related expenses.

Why Atom Power Technology?

The project’s success hinged on Atom Power’s dynamic power management system. This allowed eight charging ports to operate on MPC’s existing transformer—something traditional chargers couldn’t support without an upgrade.

“Ensuring access to reliable EV charging is a crucial step in electrifying any fleet,” said Ryan Kennedy, co-founder and CEO of Atom Power. “Our partnership with Inovis Energy and MPC proves that the transition to sustainable transportation can be both seamless and strategic.”

Permitting, Power Coordination, and Execution

Inovis handled the entire permitting process with Mecklenburg County. They also coordinated directly with Duke Energy, who supplied conductors from the existing transformer to a new meter base.

Importantly, the Atom EV chargers were fully networked upon installation, enabling secure, real-time management through cloud-based systems.

“The Inovis Energy and Atom Power solution was flexible, expandable, and far ahead of what other vendors offered,” said Andy Fischer, President of Mecklenburg Paint Company. “Project execution went smoothly. Inovis has been a great partner, and we’re excited about the technology.”

Funding Support and Local Collaboration

Inovis also secured multiple funding sources for the project, including:

  • NC DEQ’s state grant for workplace charging
  • Duke Energy’s commercial charger prep credit

These incentives helped offset initial costs and accelerated ROI for MPC.

Moreover, the relationship between Inovis and MPC was strengthened through their shared involvement in IREM North Carolina, highlighting the role of local business networks in advancing clean energy initiatives.

Results and Feedback

Parking spaces at the facility are now clearly marked for EV fleet use, complying with ADA guidelines. No payment is required for charging, making the transition as frictionless as possible.

“We’ve got one electric van on the road already and are preparing the next,” shared Liz Etheredge, CEO of MPC. “The process has been smooth. We’re excited to keep moving forward.”
